This position is with the Drinking Water State Revolving Loan Fund (DWSRF) Program of the Division of Municipal Facilities. The DWSRF Program provides loan funds to eligible public water systems for construction and upgrading of drinking water source, treatment, storage and distribution systems. The DWSRF Program also works with drinking water systems in North Dakota to ensure compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act.Responsibilities of the Position Include:Implementation of DWSRF projects.Design review/approval of non-DWSRF water and wastewater projects.Presentation of topics at drinking water operator training sessions.Provide technical assistance on drinking water issues.Assistance in prioritizing DWSRF projects.Review of DWSRF loan applications, planning studies, environmental reports, project designs, bidding documents, construction change orders, and operation and maintenance manuals.Attendance at DWSRF preconstruction meetings.Site inspection of DWSRF construction projects.Tracking construction progress of DWSRF projects for regulatory and payment purposes.

Minimum Qualifications

DEQ starting salary range for Environmental Scientist II is $5,120/month, depending on experience. This position is being offered in the Division of Water Quality's Groundwater Protection Program. The Groundwater Protection Program protects and monitors groundwater quality and works towards restoration of groundwater that has been impacted by contaminants. This position will be responsible for groundwater quality sampling from monitoring wells across the state, entering data in water quality databases, cleaning and maintaining field equipment, procuring appropriate sampling containers and the preparation and preservation of samples for laboratory analysis.

Minimum Qualifications

Individuals must be enrolled in a college or university or be a recent graduate majoring in biology, the environmental sciences, or in natural resource management with coursework in chemistry, biology, geology, ecology, or other related physical or natural science. This position is based in Bismarck; however, considerable travel, with overnight stays, will be required. Transportation and per diem reimbursement will be provided by the department. A good driving record with a valid driver's license is required. Experience with computers (Arcview, Office), GPS and maintenance of related equipment will be helpful. This position requires computer and data management capabilities.

At the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), we stand by our mission to conserve and protect the quality of North Dakota's air, land, and water resources following science and the law. We are looking for a candidate who identifies with this mission and has a passion for serving the citizens in our great state as a Watershed Management Program Intern / Co-op. : As our Watershed Management Program Intern, you will be responsible for a wide variety of water quality and biological monitoring activities including lake and river water quality sampling; sampling and processing aquatic biota including fish, macroinvertebrates, and algae using nets, electrofishing gear, and other related equipment; collection and sample preparation of fish for tissue analysis; responding to calls/inquiries and follow-up activities associated with the Harmful Algal Bloom (HABs) Surveillance Program; and office and laboratory work including data entry, cleaning and maintaining field equipment, and preparation and preservation of samples for laboratory analysis.This position is based in Bismarck; however, considerable travel, with overnight stays, will be required. Transportation and per diem reimbursement will be provided by the department. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. DEQ will not provide sponsorships.Individuals must be enrolled in a college or university or be a recent graduate majoring in biology, the environmental sciences, or in natural resource management with coursework in chemistry, biology, geology, ecology, or other related physical or natural science. A good driving record with a valid driver's license is required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with computers (ArcGIS, Office), GPS and maintenance of related equipment will be helpful.
