BISMARCK, N.D. – The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently announced that they are offering an enhancement to the Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honeybees and Farm-raised Fish Program (ELAP) to help ranchers cover above normal costs of hauling livestock to forage or other grazing acres.

BISMARCK, N.D. – Earlier this month, the State Board of Animal Health (BOAH) announced that all shows, public sales, swaps and exhibitions of poultry and other birds within the state were canceled as a precaution to reduce the risk of avian influenza exposure to North Dakota birds.

BISMARCK, N.D. – The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has confirmed the presence of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a non-commercial, backyard chicken flock in Kidder County, North Dakota. A presumptive positive case was first identified by the North Dakota State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory and confirmed by the APHIS National Veterinary Services Laboratories in Ames, Iowa.

BISMARCK, N.D. – With avian influenza spreading throughout the country and confirmed cases in wild birds and domestic poultry in neighboring states, residents should not attempt to assist, move, rehabilitate or dispatch wild birds and should avoid bringing wildlife home. Poultry owners should practice increased biosecurity to help protect their birds.
