BISMARCK – Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring has announced North Dakota Agricultural Products Utilization Commission (APUC) awards for seven projects. The requests totaling $358,755.50 were approved at the APUC quarterly meeting July 21-22 in Medora.

APUC is a program of the North Dakota Department of Agriculture that administers grant programs for research and development of new and expanded uses for North Dakota agricultural products. The grants can be used for basic and applied research, marketing and utilization, farm diversification, nature-based agritourism, prototype and technology and technical assistance.

The following requests received approval:

Food First, LLC was awarded $34,000 to build brand awareness for their prebiotic fiber product line. Contact Rob Thornberg at 701-549-3864.

Blue Flint Ethanol was awarded $155,000 to research and conduct a feasibility study on the utilization of biomass as a fuel and power source for the plant. Contact Jeff Zueger at 701-442-7500.

Healthy Oilseeds, LLC was awarded $62,890.50 to do a nutritional assessment of hemp by-products for inclusion in animal feed. Contact Roger Gussiass at 701-652-3529.

McLean/Sheridan Rural Water District was awarded $54,240 to conduct an economic analysis of the most feasible means to replacing the current water supply and wastewater treatment facilities for Blue Flint Ethanol. Contact Ann Oberg at 701-448-2686.

Identity Ag Processing, LLC was awarded $17,850 for site design services for eventual infrastructure improvements to improve plant efficiency and capacity. Contact Robert Sinner at 701-347-4900.

North Dakota Farmers Union was awarded $27,500 for a feasibility study on the development of a North Dakota rendering facility with the capabilities of receiving rendering from other customers. Contact Mark Watne at 701-252-2341.

South 40 Farms, LLC was awarded $7,275 for engineering and plant design for a beef processing facility in Mott, ND. Contact John Roswech at 701-209-0204.

APUC will hold its next grant application hearing on Nov. 18-19, 2020, in Valley City. Applications for the July meeting must be received by Oct. 1, 2020. Prototype and technical assistance applications must be received by Dec. 1 for the Feb. 17-18, 2021, meeting.
