The North Dakota Retirement and Investment Office (RIO) is a global institutional investor with investment portfolios of more than $23 billion. Our investment team is seeking a driven Public Markets Investment Analyst. This key role will play a contributing part in ensuring RIO fulfills its mission, vision, and values.As the Public Markets Investment Analyst, you will be part of the newly created Internal Portfolio Management Team, but will partner with all of the RIO investment and operations teams to succeed.As the Public Markets Investment Analyst, you will help to develop investment strategies for pension funds, an endowment structure, and insurance trusts. Responsibilities may include portfolio optimization, quantitative analytics, trading of securities related to active and passive strategies, model portfolio implementation, derivative overlays, collateral management, liquidity optimization, and data management. This role may also assist with macroeconomic, quantitative, and fundamental research and recommendations for crafting the internal strategies, as well as the externally managed public market strategies. This role is also expected to work with the Risk team on risk and performance analytics and reporting by leveraging Aladdin. All such activities will span both equity and fixed income markets, and will provide a learning experience to develop a broad set of investment skills essential for future career opportunities on the team.To thrive in this role, you should have investment experience and credentials; with quantitative and risk management investment experience being preferred. Effective communication and collaboration with team members, stakeholders, and public and private organizations are also essential for this position. Position reports to the Portfolio Manager of Internal Equity.Location: RIO is located in Bismarck, ND. This position is based onsite at our office location in Bismarck, ND. We offer a hybrid work schedule that may allow the candidate an option to telecommute from home one to two days per week. Salary Range: $60,000 to $135,000 annually commensurate with experience. This role may be eligible for a discretionary incentive compensation plan based on performance. You'll need to have: Bachelor's degree in accounting, economics, finance, mathematics, or business (with an emphasis in investments, economics, finance, accounting, or related investment content), or a closely related field from an accredited college or university. Strong analytical skills, with proficiency in financial modeling and Excel.Relevant work experience in investment funds management obtained through an investment internship or professional investment funds management role. We'd love to see: 1+ years of relevant experience working in a similar investment role. MBA, MS in Finance, CFA and other investment related credentials. Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. A sophisticated understanding of investment vehicles, investment statistics/metrics, portfolio theory, capital markets and the investment process is desired. Experience working for an entity (e.g. public agency or private corporation) that has a major investment program. A high degree of proficiency with windows-based software for word processing, spreadsheets, quantitative tools such as python programming language, risk and performance systems and concepts, and database management. Advanced excel skills.Knowledge and ability to use investment related software.
