BISMARCK – The Severance Dairy Farm of Dickey received the Commissioner’s Award of Dairy Excellence during the 2020 North Dakota Dairy Convention, held yesterday in Bismarck and sponsored by the North Dakota Milk Producers Association.
The Severance Dairy Farm is run by Kyle and Heather Severance and their five children. The Severances are currently milking 60 cows, mostly jerseys. Kyle grew up in farm country in Vermont and helped neighbors with milking. The family built their dairy barn in 2016 and also have stock cows and run a seed and agronomy business.
“The Severances have a remarkable inspection record,” Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring said. “They have consistently exceeded requirements for somatic cell counts, bacteria counts and farm inspection scores.”
“The Severance farm is the latest new dairy to start in North Dakota,” said Goehring. “We need to focus efforts on continuing to ensure dairy farms and processors are a part of North Dakota agriculture.”
The family is a member of Dairy Farmers of America and their milk is processed in Pollock and Hoven, SD. They have been a Grade A dairy farm since they started operation.
