BISMARCK – Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring has named Rick Schmidt as the recipient of the 2022 Weed Control Partner Award.
Schmidt serves on the executive board of the North Dakota Weed Control Association and has been an Oliver County weed officer and extension agent for 27 years.
“Rick has efficiently and effectively served in both roles, which is unique to only a few counties,” Goehring said. “He takes the initiative to keep in touch with other weed officers across the state and frequently mentors new weed officers.”
Goehring said Schmidt encourages education and provides public outreach on integrated weed management, early detection and rapid response, and spray equipment calibration.
“Rick displays great communication and collaboration with everyone he comes in contact with,” Goehring added. “He promotes teamwork and education by working cooperatively with landowners, neighboring weed boards, youth and the North Dakota Department of Agriculture.”
The award was presented to Schmidt during the 2022 Commissioner’s Noxious Weed Forum in Bismarck.
