BISMARCK – Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring has announced that the North Dakota Department of Agriculture has funding available through the Specialty Crop Block Grant Program for teachers in grades 2-3 to incorporate edamame trail mix kits into their curriculum.

“The North Dakota Department of Agriculture is seeking teachers interested in bringing this STEM learning opportunity into their classrooms,” Goehring said. “April is National Soy Foods Month, and students will learn about soybeans and other North Dakota specialty crops, and their importance in agriculture in North Dakota.”

Teachers interested in receiving edamame trail mix kits may go to https://www.ndda.nd.gov/trailmixkits for full details and to fill out an application. Applications must be submitted in electronic form by Friday, March 28, 2025. Successful applicants will be notified by March 31, 2025, and kits will be mailed by early April.

Questions may be directed to Local Foods Marketing Specialist Jenna Nieters at 701-328-2659 or jnieters@nd.gov.

Teachers will have until May 9, 2025, to use the kits and provide the education to their students.
